Although we’re in disbelief that a year has already passed since their wedding day, we are so excited to be able to congratulate Nine & Ben on their first year of marriage! When they reached out to us about doing an anniversary session at the oceanfront in Virginia Beach, we knew that doing a sunrise session was going to be worth the extra effort – and it was! We set our alarms super early, gently woke up our (very confused) 7 month old and jumped in the car to head to the oceanfront for what was to be a very clear morning – perfect for a sunrise anniversary session. When we got there, we hugged Nina & Ben tight and introduced them to Isaiah for the first time. A year ago, he was our assistant in the womb at their wedding, but this morning he got to be third shooter and supervisor. Even with sleepy eyes, he seemed to enjoy the promotion.

One of our favorite things about being wedding photographers is that we get to build unique friendships with each of our couples. While we usually do not have too much history with them prior to their inquiry, we meet them at such a sweet time in their lives and really get to help them celebrate their engagement, their marriage and even their anniversaries. Having a business that allows you to build friendships is literally one of the best things in the world. While we only had a small part in their love story, we got to capture irreplaceable memories for them that they will get to look back on for the rest of their lives. We’ve talked before about how wedding photography is so bittersweet for us – it’s wonderful because you get to watch your couples as they begin their legacy together, but it’s also quite sad because it means that we are saying goodbye to our couples that we’ve spent so much time getting to know. This is why we absolutely love doing anniversary sessions for our past couples. We get to catch up, laugh with one another and reminisce about their wedding day. Plus, getting them back in front of our cameras is always a breath of fresh air because they are already super comfortable with us.

If you’re married and you’re considering doing an anniversary session, it should be an automatic yes. Even though we ourselves don’t get in front of the camera too much, we firmly believe in celebrating anniversaries the best way you can and there is no better way in our opinion than to have an anniversary session with your spouse. These are the memories that build your legacy! Always say yes to celebrating your marriage.
