From the moment we started Emily & Nathan’s engagement session at Fort Monroe in Hampton, Virginia, we knew that it was going to be a lot of fun. Most sessions start out kind of slow as our couples get used to being in front of the camera, but Emily & Nathan started off like they knew exactly what they were doing! If we had to pick one word to describe them as a couple it would be joyful. Actually, we had a hard time getting any serious photos because they were laughing so much. When a couple can be themselves in front of the camera, a session goes from being good to being great!
Fort Monroe is such a great place for photos and we love any opportunity we get to visit the historical site. With its diverse structures and landscape, you can do numerous shoots here and you’d walk away with completely different photos. We love that it holds so much history inside the fort and then is surrounded by water on the outside. There are very few places on the east coast that have a spectacular view of the sunset over the water, but Fort Monroe is one of them. If you’re a history buff and looking for something fun to do on the weekends, you should check out Fort Monroe!
We can’t wait for these two to tie the knot next month at the Historic Post Office! Take a look at some of our favorite photos from their session.
At this point in the session, we just had to show them a back-of-camera preview. As soon as we did, Emily said, “See? I told you a picked good ones.” Our photographer hearts swooned! Because Nathan was out to sea, he didn’t get a chance to meet us before their session. It was so exciting to hear Emily throughout their session point out that she was excited to have us as their wedding photographers.
After roaming around the inside of the fort, we ventured out to the rocks that surrounded the outside. It was a bit breezy and honestly, quite cold, but these two were such troopers as we asked them to walk on the very large, very awkwardly shaped rocks for the sake of photos.
As I stated in the beginning, the sunsets over the water at Fort Monroe are to die for. We end every session that we can at this spot because everyone loves a good sunset picture. It was a fantastic end to a wonderful session.
