Maggie & Evan’s love story is one of our most favorite that we have ever heard. We were so honored to be a part of their special day as they finally became husband and wife.
Maggie & Evan met when they were around 10 years old. Their families met due to the military and they formed a strong bond. Although they didn’t live in the same state for many years, they would vacation together and go on trips almost yearly. Both families had a strong belief in God and it’s one of the things that united them over the years. Although there may have been a slight interest when they were young, nothing transpired between Maggie & Evan until a few years ago. At the request of her father, Maggie & Evan had only exchanged letters to one another over the course of two years. There were no texts, no phone calls, no trips to see one another…just letters. Her father’s goal was to make sure that Evan loved Jesus more than he loved Maggie and that if he wanted to pursue her, he would have to prove he was mature enough to do so. One day, Maggie came to her father and said, “I really like Evan. I’d like to see him.” After talking with Evan and noticing how much he had grown, Mr. Steele decided he was all-in for their relationship and so he flew Maggie out to see Evan and his family and their relationship began.
Maggie & Evan have not lived in the same state since they began dating and they had only visited each other a handful of times throughout their relationship. They built their relationship while being long distance through meaningful conversations with one another and a mutual love of Jesus. Can you imagine going from being in a long distance relationship to husband & wife in a day? Though it rained and rained throughout their day, nothing could damper the excitement and love that covered these two families. What a beautiful love story. What a beautiful God.
Because these two chose to do a first look, we got to snag a few portraits of them before the ceremony, which is always such a blessing. Even though it was pouring rain and we were using umbrellas to cover us and our equipment, Maggie & Evan stayed dry under a gazebo and we shot away.
Although we had done her bridal portraits in September on a beautiful, fall day, we had to take a few more bridal pictures of Maggie in her wedding day look. This girl was made to be a bride, wasn’t she?
Looking at the weather leading up to the wedding day, we knew that it was going rain. It had ranged from 80-100% chance of rain as the day neared and so we came prepared with umbrellas, in case it was our only option to do wedding party photos. Although we’ve never had to use them in the past, we were happy to pull them out for these portraits. We think they are the cutest addition!
Time for the ceremony!
After the ceremony, we were relieved to see that it had stopped raining long enough for us to get a few more group shots without umbrellas.
This beautiful group of bridesmaids and handsome gentlemen were so sweet. We had a great time with them.
We were so thankful that the rain held off for us, allowing us to do more portraits of Evan & Maggie after the ceremony. We wandered around the grounds of Historic St. Luke’s Church and stopped every few feet to take a few photos of them.
It’s reception time!
When it was time for toasts, Mr. Steele was given the floor first. He gave a summary of Evan & Maggie’s love story from the very beginning; starting with them meeting when they were 10 years old. Over the years, Mr. Steele admits to not making it easy on Evan to acquire his daughter’s heart, but in the end, Evan persevered and grew into a godly man that Mr. & Mrs. Steele would be proud to call a son-in-law. Listening to all he had to say about Maggie and about Evan had many people in the room teary. Such sweet words from a loving father.
Maggie also chose to have a special dance with her grandfather, who had lost his wife, Maggie’s grandmother, this past spring. It was so very sweet to see them dance around the room together in her memory.
Let the dance party begin!
Congratulations Maggie & Evan! We wish you all the best in your future together!
Michael & Chelsea
